50 years’ of service in one institution

The senior most staff member of TCV

Joining the Nursery for Tibetan Refugee in 1963 as a young staff to involve in the work of the NURSERY, Mr. Lhekshey Tenpa spent the last fifty years in the most important work of caring, rearing and bringing up the children who came with much hope and complete dependency. He has seen over fifty thousand children who have been the part of this big family, many now in the service of the Tibetan community. He is seeing the third generation of our family enrolling in the fold of TCV from the admission department which he heads. Like the veteran and versatile staff Mr. Lhekshey, the nursery for Tibetan refugee has under gone a complete metamorphosis from a small nursery to one of the biggest educational and social centre in the Tibetan exile community, not only from K to 12 but also upto the university level. Tibetan Children’s Village not only caters to the need of the educational development but to any social problem that we face-children at risk and old and infirm in our society.

To be in the service for five long decades in the same institution is not only a mammoth task but also a record service year for any institution. He has involved in the work of TCV in various capacities mainly in the administrative post. This is indeed a very big sacrifice on his part and we all look upon him as our model and follow his suit.  He is still deeply involved in the administration of TCV and popularly known as Lhekshy La. He is very simple, friendly and fully devoted to the work of TCV. He spares no time to visit anyone who is sick and makes sure of his presence whenever we are faced with unfortunate events. He never misses his last condolence and respect to the deceased.

In appreciation of his long association and involvement in the work of TCV staff members took the initiative to honour him with a dinner and Guru Rinpoche thangka with a citation which reads:

” ལེགས་སྨོན་བཟང་པོའི་མཐུ་ལས་རབ་བརྟེན་ནས།
