Today is a very special day for TCV as we are blessed by the visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu for the celebration of the 80th birthday of His Holiness. This was arranged as per the expressed wishes of Desmond Tutu to organize a grand birthday celebration while he is on a five day visit to Dharamshala to co-author a book on joy.

As scheduled exactly at 2:30 the two Noble laureates and spiritual giants walked pass the lines of children who welcomed them with traditional song. They went straight to the junior school library to visit the exhibition to see the art work and greetings written by the children. Few of the children presented their tales of escape from Tibet in a very emotional tone making all those present wet their eyes with tears. As they walked through the convergence of the assembly, the children sang a very befitting song of melody of 80 and filled the valley with the air of joy and bliss.

After having seated on a raised platform in the midst of cheering children and huge crowd of visitors and public, His Holiness talked very briefly about the event and spoke of joy and happiness. Whereas Archbishop Tutu expressed his profound joy for being able to come all the way from South Africa to express his greetings for the birthday of His Holiness. This was followed by question answer session and both the laureates answered the questions asked by several students. Before cutting the birthday cake Archbishop stole the show by voluntarily dancing to the beautiful tune of “We are the World” and at one point even coerced His Holiness to join in the jubilation.
